PROGRAMS SHOWCASE
Creative, engaging and interactive programs are the primary vehicle through which NSBE fulfills its mission of creating engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. We provide a variety of programs in the following core areas to support all demographics impacted by the Society: Academic Excellence; Technical Excellence; Leadership Development; Community Impact; Pre-College Initiative and Chapter Development. At this year’s Convention, we will highlight NSBE programs and competitions to all of our members and visitors.
INNOVATIONS CORNERS (FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE TECHNCIAL EXPO)
The vision for the NSBE Technical Expo is for companies to interactively showcase their latest R&D projects for the purpose of educating the NSBE membership and marketing themselves as an exciting place to work. Companies will setup learning stations, workstations, and activities to simulate the experience of engineer at their company. Various fields of engineering and applied science will be represented. Participants will walk away with an understanding of what the day-to-day work is like for an engineer at a particular company and learn about research ideas they can help realize. Companies will have a wonderful opportunity to persuade NSBE members to apply to intern, co-op, or work for them. As an auxiliary to the career fair, companies will have a place to interactively show potential employees what they can look forward to if they work for them. NSBE Special Interest Groups (SIGs) will also be highlighted in this area of the Expo. Companies interested in participating in the Innovations Corner must complete the Expo Registration Packet (pages 4-5) and return to NSBE WHQ.
THE MARKETPLACE
The NSBE Marketplace features the goods and services of companies across the country. African art, jewelry, clothing, and oils for house & body; costume jewelry and accessories; licensed NSBE Items (ex: NSBE clothing, engineering-themed T-shirts, dog tags, lapel pins, luggage tags, lanyards, graduation stoles); paintings and sculptures; and men and women’s business professional attire and accessories (suits, cotton shirts, silk neck ties, ladies handbags, hosiery) are examples of products that were available for purchase at the NSBE Marketplaces at past conventions. In addition, NSBE Chapters are encouraged to register as licensed vendors and partner with companies to sell goods (such as NSBE hoodies, sweaters, jackets, etc.) as a fund raiser for their chapter. Furthermore, NSBEpreneurs are invited to showcase their inventions and network with the NSBE membership to expand their business connections. Companies interested in participating in the Innovations Corner must complete the Expo Registration Packet (pages 6-8) and return to NSBE WHQ.
AUTHOR’S PAVILION
The Author’s Pavilion features NSBE authors and authors whose works focuses on issues related to STEM or the African-American experience in general. Book signing and discussion sessions with featured authors will occur on Saturday, March 30, 2013.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS PAVILION
African-Americans are disproportionately affected by a myriad of health issues. The 2013 Annual Convention Planning Committee recognizes that being culturally responsible also means developing healthy lifestyles. As the largest meeting of STEM students and professionals, NSBE is pleased to offer programming and activities throughout the week, including the health and wellness pavilion, that will help our members live healthier, more productive lives.
