GTA Applications GTA Applications

The Golden Torch Awards (GTA) recognizes excellence among technical professionals, corporate, government and academic leaders, and university and pre-college students. These awards illustrate the possibilities that can be cultivated through support and responsibility. The proceeds of GTA are used to create college scholarships for gifted high school students. National Leadership Conference National Leadership Conference

It is that time of year again! The 2012 National Leadership Conference (NLC) is to be held June 6th - 10th in New London, CT. The theme of NLC and the Regional Leadership Conferences (RLC) is Leadership: A Catalyst for Positive Change.

NLC is NSBE's premier training program for national and regional officers. Participants receive training in such areas as budgeting, expense management, public relations, and funds solicitation. They will also learn soft skills such as effective communication, teamwork and conflict resolution.

"It was only a number of years ago that I was considering dropping out of college because of poor grades. Sometimes I think back. What if I never joined NSBE? What if I didn’t have mentors to push me? What if I gave up? It’s simple; I wouldn’t be where I am today. I wouldn’t be a college graduate nearing the completion of my second degree. I wouldn’t be in the Operations Leadership Program at UTC. I wouldn’t be National Chair of the National Society of Black Engineers. I wouldn’t be the “Cal” that members are now proud to call “Chairman”. "

Convention Bags
Maximum Number of Sponsors: Two (2)
Item Description: At every Annual Convention all registrants (pre‐college, collegiate, alumni, technical professional, etc) receive NSBE conference bags at the start of the Convention Program.
Sponsorship Benefit: Your company logo (in addition to the NSBE Symbol) will be prominently displayed during the Convention and as attendees return home to their unique geographic locations around the globe. The bags will contain sizable items that advertise your company’s brand/image.

Opening Session

Item Description: Opening event for the convention. Session includes pageantry to convey Convention theme, well‐known motivational speakers, introduction of national and convention leaders, and a formal welcome from a local government official.

Technical Professional Conference (TPC) Corporate Executive Roundtables

Item Description: These events will consist of several unique executive roundtables that are targeted for the graduate student and the technical professional. The goal of this event is to offer the membership an alternate to the traditional workshop setting in order to gain exposure or knowledge in an area that the relevant to the graduate student and alumni community. Roundtable panelists and their companies will be featured in NSBE publications.

2013 Annual Convention Kick‐Off Event

Item Description: The kick‐off event to the 2013 Annual Convention will be held at the 2012 Annual Convention (Pittsburgh, PA). This will be a high energy event that will commence the promotion of the 2013 Annual Convention being held in Indianapolis, IN. The purpose of this event is to spread awareness and build anticipation so that we lay the foundation for another amazing convention. This event will showcase what the city of Indianapolis has to offer as well as prompt Pittsburgh convention attendees for early registration.

APEx Networking Reception

Item Description: NSBE Members with APEx status (Academic Pyramid of Excellence, 3.0 or above) will have a chance to meet with members of the Board of Corporate Affiliates (BCA) during Annual Convention in the form of a networking reception.
Sponsorship Benefit: Guaranteed access to collegiate members with a grade point average of 3.0 and above. Company will be able to hang banner, provide marketing material to members and give a short presentation during the networking event. Speaker and two (2) additional registrations.

Boeing Flight Competition:

Item Description: This workshop is a technical competition in which teams design airplanes/airborne structures made of balsa wood and then demonstrate the aircraft's airworthiness in a series of flight tests. The Boeing Flight Competition is open to all undergraduate students who are NSBE members.

Power Lunch

Target Audience:  Collegiate and Technical Professionals
Item Description:  Discipline based lunch and learn style event for up to 150 undergraduate students, graduate students and technical professionals. One Power Lunch will be hosted each day of Convention beginning on Thursday. The Power Lunch is a great opportunity to capture a group of NSBE members that are interested in a specialized area. The goal of this session is for attendees to leave more knowledgeable about a given topic. Potential topics for a Power Lunch include: biotechnology, nanotechnology, cyber technology and global leadership.
