GTA Applications GTA Applications

The Golden Torch Awards (GTA) recognizes excellence among technical professionals, corporate, government and academic leaders, and university and pre-college students. These awards illustrate the possibilities that can be cultivated through support and responsibility. The proceeds of GTA are used to create college scholarships for gifted high school students. 2013 Alumni Summit 2013 Alumni Summit

We are pleased to announce the 2013 Alumni Summit. The event will be held May 23-26 at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This event aims to provide members with formal and informal networking opportunities; organizational strategic planning meetings and workshops; professional chapter development programming; and community service events all in a relaxed and family oriented atmosphere.

#NSBE2013 Photo Recap #NSBE2013 Photo Recap

NSBE's 39th Annual Convention in Indianapolis recorded the second-highest attendance, with more than 8,200 registrants checking in. The largest attended convention remains Orlando, with more than 9,600 attendees. Roland S. Martin, former CNN contributor and TVOne host drew standing room only crows to the Opening Session on Wednesday, which was sponsored by the United Technologies Corporation. At the Golden Torch Awards ceremony on Saturday, the United States Military Academy was honored for an historic accomplishment in diversity. During the Convention, eight African-American professors of West Point’s Department of Mathematical Sciences received NSBE’s Dr. Janice A. Lumpkin Educator of the Year honor on behalf of their department. No other college or university math department in the country has as many African-American professors.

NSBE Jr. Chapter Takes 1st Place NSBE Jr. Chapter Takes 1st Place

The Metro Warriors STEM NSBE Jr. Chapter won 1st place in the middle school division at the Ten80 Student Racing Challenge: NASCAR STEM Initiative™ held at the Max Dragway in Concord, NC on May 18. Representing Region II, the Metro Warriors also placed 1st for team presentation. The Ten80 Student Racing Challenge: NASCAR STEM Initiative is a league in which middle and high school students* practice the art of being professionals. Young men and women, supported by a community of mentors and educators, collaborate and compete in ways that mirror business & marketing executives, engineers, technicians, green transportation designers and professional motor-sports  teams. Membership Types

Below are the NSBE membership categories and their corresponding national dues.  Additional chapter and regional dues may apply.  Join NSBE today!
 

  • NSBE Jr. (Pre-College) Member - $5 annually
    • Pre-college individuals who seek exposure to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)
  • Collegiate Member - $15 annually
    • Undergraduate and graduate students majoring in science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics (STEM) at a collegiate institution or graduate level students who majored in STEM as undergraduates
  • Alumni Extension / Technical Professional Member - $50 annually
    • Working professionals and graduate students who majored in science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics seek to fulfill NSBE's mission via avenues for networking and professional development while giving back to the community.  *NSBE Graduating Seniors - Your first year of AE membership is free!
  • Lifetime Membership - $1200
    • Lifetime Membership is reserved for individuals who wish to make the ultimate commitment to the mission of NSBE. These individuals are eligible for all the membership benefits of the other membership categories that they best fit
  • International Membership – Free
    • International Membership is reserved for individuals who reside outside of the U.S. and Canada. International membership rates apply for all categories except Lifetime Membership

Joint Membership

As a member, you can join two organizations for a lower price. We currently have joint membership opportunities with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE)* and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME):

  • To join SWE – when joining or renewing your NSBE membership, simply click on the checkbox that says SWE Joint Membership and your total will automatically be updated to reflect your joint, discounted fee. It may take up to 4 weeks for your SWE membership to be recognized in their National Office
  • To join ASME – go to their website and join directly at www.asme.org and mention that you are a member of NSBE to receive a discount on your ASME membership fees

* SWE joint membership available from May 1 through December 1 annually. Mid-year applications will not be accepted.
