The Senator role was designed so that there are individuals at the Chapter level dedicated to the position and engaged YEAR-ROUND in Regional and National Business. Year-round engagement is more than just staying up to date with NSBE business, voting at conferences, and facilitating communication between the Chapter, Regional, and National levels of NSBE. The Senate has the ability to directly further the mission of NSBE by leading the development and implementation of initiatives and strategies.

Our chapter members are essential to any effort initiated within our organization and as Chapter Senators, you are attuned to opportunities and obstacles in implementing regional and national efforts within your chapters. As a member of a Regional Senate, you have the strategic advantage of being able to develop best practices and strategies that can be shared regionally and translated nationally. We are currently collecting suggestions for a particular focus area and objective for the 2014-2015 National Senate. Once chosen, the Parliamentarians will work with the Senate to achieve this objective and we will report out on the status to the general membership at NSBE’s 41st Annual Convention in Anaheim, CA.

In light of all the Senator responsibilities and to realize the full potential of the Senate, it is important that the Senator position is not treated as a dual-role for another Chapter leader or filled temporarily a few weeks before a conference. As FRC approaches, make sure you are electing your Senators so that they can be informed and take part in the upcoming Senate Initiative.

Stay tuned for the next eNews to find out how the 2014-15 National Senate will re-imagine NSBE!
