Dr. Frazier recognized as on of "TheGrio's 100: History Makers in the Making"

On February 1, 2011 Dr. Frazier had the honor and privilege of being recognized as one of “TheGrio’s 100: History Makers in the Making”. In addition to being profiled on all platforms of NBC News including “NBC Nightly News,” “TODAY,” MSNBC, CNBC, and msnbc.com, TheGrio’s 100 has led to substantial public acknowledgment by the Under Secretary for Nuclear Security under Secretary of Energy Chu, by her alma maters Carnegie Mellon University and Michigan State University.
In thinking about the recognition that she received, Dr. Frazier stated, “I have to share the honor with NSBE – through whom I first came to the attention of Black Enterprise magazine, and from there Essence Magazine and The Discovery Channel, not to mention a growing network of talented professionals and industry leaders. Also noteworthy are Black Child and Family Institute (BCFI) – the Lansing Michigan community center at which I volunteered and then worked as head of after school programs; the Carnegie Mellon Action Project – CMU’s bridge program between high school and college; and the Breakthrough (formerly Summerbridge) program – the summer enrichment program for middle school students that I both attended and at which I taught.”
Dr. Frazier has continuously provided a positive impact on a National Stage and accredits these organizations and experiences for significantly shaping who she is today as a public servant, mentor, scientist, and volunteer. “It is though Summerbridge that I truly realized my love of math, teaching, and community service; through CMAP that I developed the network, skills, and early exposure I needed to survive CMU; through BCFI that I learned to make my own opportunities to impact the community and reach back to students; and through NSBE that I found a way to maintain my ideal balance of educational development, community outreach, and personal growth."
And through them all Dr. Frazier learned that commitment, dedication, and excellence are traits we must develop and foster in ourselves and others in all we do. It is this last lesson: commitment, dedication, and excellence for one’s self – not for others, and not for recognition – that, ironically, opened the door for her recognition on TheGrio list. “So I will hold the recognition as a beacon of a lesson well learned and regularly (although not always!) practiced, and a renewal for staying on The Path.”
Congratulations Dr. Frazier, you are truly an inspiration to us all.
