Message From Your Chair Message From Your Chair

"It was only a number of years ago that I was considering dropping out of college because of poor grades. Sometimes I think back. What if I never joined NSBE? What if I didn’t have mentors to push me? What if I gave up? It’s simple; I wouldn’t be where I am today. I wouldn’t be a college graduate nearing the completion of my second degree. I wouldn’t be in the Operations Leadership Program at UTC. I wouldn’t be National Chair of the National Society of Black Engineers. I wouldn’t be the “Cal” that members are now proud to call “Chairman”. "

Letter From Your Region I Chair, Ricardo Theodore

Region I Family,

I hope this letter finds you at a productive time in your spring. Although many of us are only in the initial phases of our semester, it is the perfect time to think about how we will live NSBE’s mission by planning ahead academically and making sure we are not waiting for the exam period to start our academic focus. Through this action alone, we can successfully take steps toward honoring those who paved the way for us and move toward becoming the new generation of black history this month!

This is also an exciting time in NSBE, as all of the buzz begins to stir about what leadership will look like for the coming year. Whether you are considering being a part of your Chapter, Zone, Regional or National Executive Board, it’s important not only to consider what NSBE will do for you but also how you can give back and take ownership of NSBE’s mission through leadership. Our Regional Shadow Program has officially launched, and I am truly excited to see how many potential 2011–2012 Regional Executive Board members have stepped up to the challenge! Through this and many other happenings around the region, we are on our way to meeting many of the regional goals set for the year.

Our next meeting as a region before Annual Convention in St. Louis will be the 2011 Region I Spring Business Meeting, which will be held in Brooklyn, N.Y., near the end of February. I look forward to seeing you there as we take care of NSBE business, learn from each other and grow in true Region I style!

We have much to offer each other this spring as members and leaders of Region I. Let’s continue working together toward the realization of our goals and take a personal stake in making history today.

One Fiyah!

Ricardo Theodore
