Engineers and Scientists have a tremendous opportunity to improve access to and understanding of science in communities. Their engagement leads to better solutions to sciencebased challenges and education needs that advance public protection and increase knowledge. Engagement Fully Loaded: Engineers At Work in Public Policy will feature a presentation by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and a panel discussion on community engagement strategies and opportunities.
The goal of the workshop is to provide guidance and support to NSBE professionals on steps to getting involved in community initiatives related to STEM. The featured presentation by UCS will highlight the newly released Scientist Community Partnerships: A Scientist's Guide to Successful Collaboration. Participants will engage in meaningful dialogue about scientists working as advocates, advisory board members, or public policy leaders in their local community or statewide. The workshop will be hosted by the NSBE Public Policy SIG.
