Teakia is originally from Jersey City, New Jersey and currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina. She has earned her Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from Drexel University and a Masters of Business Administration in Project Management from Florida Institute of Technology. With over 10 years of experience, she has worked in various engineering fields including residential, commercial and waste water/water treatment.  Teakia currently works at PEG Contracting, Inc., a Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, in the Pre-Construction Engineering Department as a Pre-Construction Manager developing budget analyses for multi-million dollar construction projects within the life science and pharmaceutical industry. She utilizes product specifications, conceptual to complete engineering drawings and design narratives to determine value engineering, offer lessons learned and create concise budgets within 5% of actual subcontractor costs. She also identifies the order of magnitude of potential project risk, solicit bids and review & identify constructability issues.


Teakia has been a member of NSBE for over 15 years and has held various positions within the Society including chapter Treasurer, T.O.R.C.H. Chair, Membership Chair, Vice President and President. She is currently a member of the Research Triangle Professionals Chapter and is serving as chapter Emeritus.  During her time in office, chapter membership increased by 75% with approximately 45% participation, and the RTP chapter was awarded over $5,000 from John Deere, one of its local Sponsors. These along with her continuous participation in various committees have resulted in her being awarded the Region 2 Leadership Award.


During her leisure Teakia brainstorms about various methods to engage our youth in the math and sciences. She serves as Co-Servant Leader in her church and participates in various public service events including TeachOne Tech, Crayons2Calculators, Habitat for Humanity, Black Girls Code and community youth initiative programs for middle and high school girls. Teakia has proven to be tenacious when it comes to mentoring, being a role model and encouraging the lives of the youth in her community.
