Message From Your Chair Message From Your Chair

"It was only a number of years ago that I was considering dropping out of college because of poor grades. Sometimes I think back. What if I never joined NSBE? What if I didn’t have mentors to push me? What if I gave up? It’s simple; I wouldn’t be where I am today. I wouldn’t be a college graduate nearing the completion of my second degree. I wouldn’t be in the Operations Leadership Program at UTC. I wouldn’t be National Chair of the National Society of Black Engineers. I wouldn’t be the “Cal” that members are now proud to call “Chairman”. "

Collegiate Initiative programming is focused on the interaction between NSBE Alumni and Collegiate Students.  November is National Academic Excellence Month and there are several opportunities for NSBE Alumni and collegiate interaction. Every Region will be hosting a Technical Research Exhibition – Alumni and students alike can participate as Exhibitors in this program. Alumni members can also serve as Judges.

The NSBE Retention Program is taking off in full speed. This year, there is an Alumni interaction component of the program. Participating chapters will be provided with contact information for local Alumni chapters in the area. Also, there will be points awarded to the collegiate chapter with the most Alumni interaction. Alumni members will be asked to serve as mentors and skill development workshop presenters for this program. There has already been great excitement towards this initiative and we only hope that the momentum continues!

A list of local chapters can be found on here. You can also reach out to your respective Regional Boards who will be able to connect you with local collegiate and Alumni chapters.

Also, don’t forget about Regional Conferences. These are one of the best times for Students and Alumni to interact regionally. Please take advantage of the opportunities through PCI programming, Collegiate Initiative programming, attending workshops and General Sessions together and taking moments to interact socially.

It all boils down to collaboration and communication.  We all serve the same mission; let’s build those relationships!  Please contact Bianca Brown, National AE College Initiative Chairperson (Email: ci@nsbe-ae.org) for any questions. Happy  Programming!
