GTA Applications GTA Applications

The Golden Torch Awards (GTA) recognizes excellence among technical professionals, corporate, government and academic leaders, and university and pre-college students. These awards illustrate the possibilities that can be cultivated through support and responsibility. The proceeds of GTA are used to create college scholarships for gifted high school students. 2013 Alumni Summit 2013 Alumni Summit

We are pleased to announce the 2013 Alumni Summit. The event will be held May 23-26 at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This event aims to provide members with formal and informal networking opportunities; organizational strategic planning meetings and workshops; professional chapter development programming; and community service events all in a relaxed and family oriented atmosphere.

#NSBE2013 Photo Recap #NSBE2013 Photo Recap

NSBE's 39th Annual Convention in Indianapolis recorded the second-highest attendance, with more than 8,200 registrants checking in. The largest attended convention remains Orlando, with more than 9,600 attendees. Roland S. Martin, former CNN contributor and TVOne host drew standing room only crows to the Opening Session on Wednesday, which was sponsored by the United Technologies Corporation. At the Golden Torch Awards ceremony on Saturday, the United States Military Academy was honored for an historic accomplishment in diversity. During the Convention, eight African-American professors of West Point’s Department of Mathematical Sciences received NSBE’s Dr. Janice A. Lumpkin Educator of the Year honor on behalf of their department. No other college or university math department in the country has as many African-American professors.

When the very idea of ideas excites you

BP is one of the world's largest energy companies, providing its customers with fuel for transportation and energy for heat and light. We are widely known as the first energy company to acknowledge the need for precautionary action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Today BP continues to lead the effort to meet the world's growing demand for sustainable, environmentally responsible energy.

BP offers top students high quality internship and early experience programs across the country, along with scholarship opportunities.

Eligibility:
All scholarships are merit based with the following considerations:

  • Minimum required GPA of 3.0 (Spring 2011 GPA or later may be used)
  • Strong interest in an energy industry career, particularly with BP
  • Full-time enrollment as a student

Applications will be reviewed by BP. While students may qualify and apply for multiple scholarships, each may only be selected to receive one BP scholarship.

Application:

The application questions help us to understand how your skills and competencies match those we most want to foster.

Before completing the application, we recommend you look at the information on our website (www.bp.com/uscollegecareers). It will give you an understanding of BP graduate programs, some insights into BP, and highlight several of the competencies for which we look. While there, you may also want to apply for an internship, co-op, or full-time position with BP!

Completed applications, including current resume and transcript must be completed by December 2, 2011 for consideration.

Award:  FOUR (4) $2500 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Online Submission Deadline:  December 2, 2011

Unofficial transcripts can be emailed to scholarships@nsbe.org. Please do NOT send Degree Audits. Submissions must be transcripts with member's name, student ID and cumulative GPA listed.
