GTA Applications GTA Applications

The Golden Torch Awards (GTA) recognizes excellence among technical professionals, corporate, government and academic leaders, and university and pre-college students. These awards illustrate the possibilities that can be cultivated through support and responsibility. The proceeds of GTA are used to create college scholarships for gifted high school students. 2013 Alumni Summit 2013 Alumni Summit

We are pleased to announce the 2013 Alumni Summit. The event will be held May 23-26 at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This event aims to provide members with formal and informal networking opportunities; organizational strategic planning meetings and workshops; professional chapter development programming; and community service events all in a relaxed and family oriented atmosphere.

#NSBE2013 Photo Recap #NSBE2013 Photo Recap

NSBE's 39th Annual Convention in Indianapolis recorded the second-highest attendance, with more than 8,200 registrants checking in. The largest attended convention remains Orlando, with more than 9,600 attendees. Roland S. Martin, former CNN contributor and TVOne host drew standing room only crows to the Opening Session on Wednesday, which was sponsored by the United Technologies Corporation. At the Golden Torch Awards ceremony on Saturday, the United States Military Academy was honored for an historic accomplishment in diversity. During the Convention, eight African-American professors of West Point’s Department of Mathematical Sciences received NSBE’s Dr. Janice A. Lumpkin Educator of the Year honor on behalf of their department. No other college or university math department in the country has as many African-American professors.

Fulfilling The Legacy Scholarship 2011-2012


The National Society of Black Engineers will award several scholarships through the NSBE Scholarship Program at the NSBE Annual Convention in Pittsburgh, PA on March 28-April 2, 2011.

In addition to our many members that donate to the Fulfilling the Legacy Scholarship fund annually, we would like to provide a special thanks to the following contributors to the fund.

  • Delphi Corporation
This scholarship epitomizes NSBE’s Mission Statement to increase the number of Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. It is supported solely by NSBE members and private donations. The number of Fulfilling the Legacy Scholarships to be awarded will be determined by the amount of money donated by the membership and contributors. Sixty percent of the fund is allocated to scholarship awards; the remaining forty percent will go into an ongoing scholarship endowment.
  • All applicants must be paid NSBE members at time application is submitted (No exceptions).
  • All NSBE undergraduate and graduate student members are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted online via IMPAK. Non-engineering/non-technical majors are ineligible.
  • NSBE Jr. members that are High School Seniors are eligible to apply.
  • Scholarship Applications must also include a University/College transcript (Spring 2011 transcripts may be used).
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed.
  • All applicants must submit one current resume (during the online application) with the exception of NSBE Jr. members.

Scholarship recipients will be selected from a combination of the following criteria:

  • Essay Question Responses
  • University Academic Achievement
  • Service to NSBE (Chapter, Regional, and/or National)
  • Other Professional, Campus and Community Activities
The Fulfilling the Legacy Scholarship recipients will receive:
  • Cash award (to be determined by total amount contributed to the scholarship fund)
