Oregon Department of Transportation Scholarship 2011
The Oregon Department of Transportation scholarship program is funded by the Oregon Department of Transportation. The scholarship is awarded to rising sophomore, juniors, seniors and graduate students majoring in specified technical disciplines attending an accredited university. Eligibility & Requirements
- Minimum 2.5 GPA required (on a 4.0 scale)
- Collegiate Undergraduate or Graduate (must have completed your freshman year)
- Must be US citizen or Permanent Resident
- Major in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or other Transportation related major Must be a current, paid (ACTIVE) NSBE member
- Must be in good academic standing
Required Documentation (uploaded during application process)
- Current transcript
- Letter of introduction describing your interest in public sector employment
- Research concept paper using the 16th Edition Chicago Manual of Style that:
- Is no more than two pages
- Uses Arial 12 point font, double spaced, one inch margins
- Includes header with only: major, year in school, expected graduation date. Your name, school or other identifying information MUST NOT BE INCLUDED in research paper
- Has a bibliography that includes at least four references. Credible sources include:
Ø Official government publications
Ø Peer reviewed journals
Ø Conference Proceedings
Ø Articles published in Academic/Scholarly Encyclopedias (open-source Encyclopedias such as Wikipedia are not acceptable)
Ø Scholarly books.

In what ways will an expanding population effect transportation in the next 20 years? What are today’s innovations currently in use or tomorrow innovations ODOT should consider to mitigate/prepare for those effects?

With aging infrastructure and declining revenues, what options should ODOT explore to cost effectively extend the life of transportation facilities?

A letter of reference from a faculty member that speaks to your academic endeavors, engagement in the engineering discipline, leadership, and work ethic is not required but would strengthen your submission

Although not required, applicants should be available to meet with selection committee at the FRC on Friday evening. Your attendance will enhance your chances in the final selection of the awardees
Award: $1000 first prize, $500 second prize
