GTA Applications GTA Applications

The Golden Torch Awards (GTA) recognizes excellence among technical professionals, corporate, government and academic leaders, and university and pre-college students. These awards illustrate the possibilities that can be cultivated through support and responsibility. The proceeds of GTA are used to create college scholarships for gifted high school students. National Leadership Conference National Leadership Conference

It is that time of year again! The 2012 National Leadership Conference (NLC) is to be held June 6th - 10th in New London, CT. The theme of NLC and the Regional Leadership Conferences (RLC) is Leadership: A Catalyst for Positive Change.

NLC is NSBE's premier training program for national and regional officers. Participants receive training in such areas as budgeting, expense management, public relations, and funds solicitation. They will also learn soft skills such as effective communication, teamwork and conflict resolution.

"It was only a number of years ago that I was considering dropping out of college because of poor grades. Sometimes I think back. What if I never joined NSBE? What if I didn’t have mentors to push me? What if I gave up? It’s simple; I wouldn’t be where I am today. I wouldn’t be a college graduate nearing the completion of my second degree. I wouldn’t be in the Operations Leadership Program at UTC. I wouldn’t be National Chair of the National Society of Black Engineers. I wouldn’t be the “Cal” that members are now proud to call “Chairman”. "

Rockwell Collins Corporate Scholarship Program 2011


Goal: To encourage academic excellence and leadership development among African–American college students in engineering and technology disciplines.

Eligibility:

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Current College Sophomore or Junior NSBE member.
  • Demonstrated interest in employment with Rockwell Collins.
  • Major in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science (Software Engineering Emphasis), or Electric Engineering.
  • Must be able to work in the United States (citizen or U.S. Work Authorization)
  • Be available to accept, if offered, one Rockwell Collins co-op or internship prior to completion of your undergraduate degree.
  • Serve as ambassador for Rockwell Collins and participate in organized Rockwell Collins activities as appropriate.
  • Applications will be evaluated and scholarship recipients selected by NSBE on Rockwell Collins behalf.

Award: Three (3) $2,500 Scholarship Awards:

  • $2,500 for successful Aerospace Engineering student
  • $2,500 for successful Electrical and/or Computer Engineering student
  • $2,500 for successful Computer Science student

Application Requirements:

  • Complete ONLINE application on NSBE IMPAK System
  • Official transcript (Spring 2010 or later should be used) – Mail to address listed below.
  • Resume (submitted during online application process)


Online Submission Deadline: January 21, 2011

Unofficial transcripts can be emailed to scholarships@nsbe.org. Please do NOT send Degree Audits. Submissions must be transcripts with member's name, student ID and cumulative GPA listed.

PLEASE NOTE: You MUST post a CONFIRMED GPA between 3.0 and 4.0 for your application to be eligible for judging. Please be sure to forward one official copy of your official transcript to the NSBE Office prior to the deadline. Only ONE official transcript is needed for ALL scholarships that you apply for.
