My name is Cavasier Morris and I am the Region II Pre-College Initiative Chair for the 2019-2020 year! With Fall Regional Conference quickly approaching, I invite you to the PCI Mini-Conference occurring from November 8-10, 2019 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The theme for the conference is Engineering the Revolution, focused around uniting students in STEM and building collective success in these majors.
The PCI Mini-Conference will feature several hands-on workshops to keep students engaged in activities and will provide applicable knowledge to assist in the investigation of STEM options. The workshops involve all ages ranging from elementary students to high school students. Regardless of age, one key aspect of the workshops is to ensure that the reflection period for each event is taken with deep consideration. My goal is for students to walk away with an idea of their future plans. More preparation for pre-collegiate students creates a better foundation and increased chances of success when entering the collegiate space.
The conference will not be limited to workshops, but will also include competitions and preparation workshops for the best results at Annual Convention competitions as well. These competitions will provide students with the opportunity to work in teams focused on different technical aspects from math problems to robotics. It is imperative that we begin the exposure of project-based competitions early on as these tend to reappear when entering college as well as fostering great teamwork which will be essential in any field that students enter.
I am excited to have you join the force that will be the Fall Regional Conference as we continue to work towards #10kby2025. Thank you, and I look forward to working with you!
