Biography

Doreen is a native of Nairobi, Kenya, and lived there until she was eight, when her family relocated to the United States. Since then, she has been living in Northern Virginia, and is now a senior at George Mason University, majoring in Cyber Security Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. Doreen has held several leadership roles with student organizations and university programs at Mason that serve to empower students of color. She’s been an active member of NSBE since her freshman year and she began her NSBE leadership as the 2016-2017 Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Chair for her chapter, and then progressed to chapter Vice President for the 2017-2018 year. Doreen is passionate about empowering other underrepresented students in STEM. In particular, she strives to plant seeds of change for Black women in STEM, promoting inclusion, equity, and access across the world. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, watching movies, and participating in outdoor activities like hiking. Doreen is excited and honored to be serving as Terror Zone Coordinator for the 2018-2019 year, and she looks forward to engaging with the membership and supporting her chapter counterparts!
