Living the Dream – Region 3 First Generation Scholarship


Being a first-generation college student brings some eagerness, but also some large
expectations. First generation college students seek to burst socio-economic levels and bring honor to their families. This Living the Dream Scholarship shall be rewarded to any
undergraduate, or graduate student becoming the first in their immediate family to receive a
bachelor’s degree. As the name indicates, this person shall be indicative of what it means to have bravery and sacrifice to pursue a STEM degree as a first-generation student.

There will be two awards: Scholarship recipients will be announced at the 45th Annual Convention in Detroit, Michigan.
 

Due February 17th, 2019


Requirements

  • Must be a undergraduate or graduate student at a college/university within Region 3
  • Must be a First Generation College Student (Being the first in one’s immediate family to receive an undergraduate degree)


Must answer the following questions in either a short essay or video (4 minutes or less):
 

  1. What is the most challenging obstacle you have had to endure being a first generation college student, and how did you overcome it?
  1. What contributions have you made as a first generation college student to further the NSBE Mission?

Pursuit of Scholarship – Region 3 Most Improved GPA Scholarship

As engineering students, we understand the rigor of our curriculum and the unique challenges we face. Some of us have pitfalls, but perseverance and dedication to graduating an engineer is at the front of our minds and at the core of NSBE’s mission. The Pursuit of Scholarship Award will be given to a deserving student who has demonstrated that dedication to scholarship by significantly improving their grades over the course of a year.

There will be two awards: Scholarship recipients will be announced at the 45th Annual Convention in Detroit, Michigan.

Due February 17th, 2019


Requirements
  • Must be a undergraduate or graduate student at a college/university within Region 3
  • Must provide an unofficial transcript showing at least the past 2 semesters

Must answer the following questions in a short essay or video (4 minutes or less):
  1. What techniques did you use to significantly improve your GPA over the course of a semester ? (Please include at least 2)
  2. In what ways has NSBE impacted your academic improvement?
  3. What steps are you going to take moving forward to ensure you keep improving?
Pursuit of Scholarship Application

All Around the World - Region 3 International Student Scholarship

International students are an important segment of our membership. They diversify our society and bring much needed traditions and unique perspectives. This scholarship will help show our commitment to improving the international student experience, and support in your pursuit of a STEM education. This deserving student shall be an international student at a school in the US or member of a Region 3 international chapter.

There will be two awards: Scholarship recipients will be announced at the 45th Annual Convention in Detroit, Michigan.

Due February 17th, 2019


Requirements:
  • Must be a undergraduate or graduate student at a college/university within Region 3
  • Must be a student attending an international college/university within Region 3 or be an international student at a university within Region 3
  • If you are an international student within the US, you must be on an F1, M1, or J1 Student Visa Status (to require additional documentation if chosen)

Must answer the following questions in a short essay or video (4 min or less):
  1. Country of Origin
  2. What is one thing you love about being an international student?
  3. Answer one of the following
    1. What challenges have you had to face as an international student? What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned from dealing with adversity?
Or
  1. In what ways do you plan to improve NSBE Region 3 as an international student? How will you contribute your plans to the national mission?
International Student Scholarship

The APEx Challenge – Region 3 Merit (Academic) Based Scholarship

APEx stands for the Academic Pyramid of Excellence, and it is NSBE’s initiative for rewarding members who have earned a 3.0 or higher GPA at their respective colleges/universities. The APEx Challenge was created as opportunity for the society’s brightest to demonstrate their academic abilities. This scholarship will be awarded to the deserving student who represents what it truly means to be an APEx member in NSBE.

There will be two awards: Scholarship recipients will be announced at the 45th Annual Convention in Detroit, Michigan.

Requirements

  • Must be a undergraduate or graduate student at a college/university within Region 3
  • Must be a NSBE APEx member

Must create a video (3 minutes minimum, 7 minutes maximum) answering the following:
  1. Why is APEx important to you?
  2. What contributions have you made as an APEx member? How does it relate to the NSBE mission?
  3. In what ways do you think the society can be improved? Give a minimum of 3 examples.  Be creative. Be very detailed & specific!
