National Society of Black Engineers

NSBE's mission is "to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community."

Welcome to Region IV!

I would like to personally welcome you to Region IV, the Mother Region, of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)! My name is Kevin B. Banks Jr. and it is an honor to serve as your 2018-2019 Region IV Chairperson.

I am beyond grateful to you, the membership, for electing me to lead you all this year. I know we will have a great year and together, we will continue to push towards the Society’s goal of graduating 10,000 black engineers annually by 2025. If you’re new to NSBE, the mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers, who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.” With that said, YOU are that black engineer NSBE is talking about. You are the one that this organization wants to cultivate into the next great innovator, that will ultimately push the envelope for what is possible within our communities and the world at large. My role as Regional Chairperson in all of this is to help focus our energy and efforts as a region to ensure that this happens. This will be accomplished through two main goals: Improving the NSBE Membership Experience and Increasing the Exposure of NSBE Nationwide.

At the forefront, assisting in these goals are each one of us in the region and the Region IV Executive Board (REB). They have been working tirelessly since May to better understand your needs in an effort provide the customized support needed for our chapters so that there are no hindrances towards our 10k by 2025 goal. Throughout the year, you will have many opportunities to interact with the REB, utilize them as a resource to further your accomplishments at the local level so that we all can SET THE PACE towards the 10k goal.

Our National Chairperson, Niasia Williams, has set the vision of, “making a M.A.J.O.R. change” within the society. She wants us all to focus on 3 key areas of engagement: Social, Academic & Technical. During her tenure she would like to, “ensure that every NSBE member gets the fullness of the NSBE experience, takes advantage of all NSBE has to offer, and pays it forward for years to come.” It’s going to take a diligent effort from each of us to achieve this and really grow the impact of this organization for the foreseeable future.

As we embark on the journey of this NSBE year, I have full faith in all of you all to lead this society and specifically the Mother Region to greatness. It will take the collective effort of each of us in order to achieve this enormous task. If anyone is up for the challenge, it is Region IV. Let’s SET THE PACE this year!

With NSBE Luv,
