What's up Region IV?!

Again, welcome to Region IV – the Mother Region of the National Society of Black Engineers! My name is Danielle Render and I am your 2016-2017 Region IV Chairperson. It is my pleasure and complete honor to humbly serve you all and this region over the course of this year. Under the leadership of National Chairperson Matthew Nelson, I know this year will be special. We will strive to keep high energy throughout the year as we work fulfill our NSBE mission “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.” It is our true commitment to our mission that will push our work and efforts towards achieving our NSBE vision: to Graduate 10,000 Black Engineers Annually by 2025. In order to fully support the vision of our organization and to align ourselves with the National Directives, Region IV will focus on two very important things: improving the membership experience and expanding our reach to capture black engineers beyond limitations. The Region IV Executive Board will make improvements in these areas by using the filter question “Will this get us closer to 10K?” in all that we do.
This year, the Region IV Executive Board’s primary focus is the membership and we want to make it personal by focusing on ‘the member.’ By being accessible, transparent, and intentional, we are striving to be the Greatest Board of All Time (G.B.O.A.T.) or what we like to say is the Fo’ Littest Board of All Time (F.L.O.A.T.). This is our motivation to strive to be the best Board we can be so that the membership will get the best effort it possibly can from us. In words of a membership creed, “THE MEMBER is not an interruption of our work…THE MEMBER is the purpose of it. We are not doing a favor by serving the member…THE MEMBER is doing us a favor by giving us the opportunity to do so.” While serving our current membership and in support of our national vision, our regional vision is making NSBE an organization that every African-American student in engineering will want to be a part of. Furthermore, there is strong emphasis on sustaining members within the pipeline by our programmatic efforts and ultimately, we intend to see our members become NSBE Professionals. Embodying the mission, this is what fuels our flame, keeping the torch lit in Region IV!
NSBE Family, Region IV, I thank you for entrusting in me the opportunity to serve as your Chairperson. I will be forever grateful and I am completely humbled to represent you all. Greatness this year will not be possible on my own, so I must say that I wouldn’t be able to greatly serve you this year without the awesome members on the Region IV Board. They are my family, so we are your family, and together, we will make this year something that will go down in history. I’m really looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can this year! This is a journey we are all embarking on together, and just like the torch – it’s LIT!!
