Alexis Cushshon is the child of Stacee McKinley and Andre Cushshon. She grew up in St. Louis as the only child with an extension of siblings. Throughout elementary, middle school and high school; she attended multiple engineering camps because of her love and interest in engineering. Throughout these camps she found out that Architectural Engineering/Civil Engineering is the major that she would want to pursue. She is currently a rising sophomore in Architectural Engineering at Kansas State University. She loves DIY projects, softball, and adventurous activities.
Why do you love NSBE and what inspired you to join the REB?
This year was not only my first year of college but my first year as an active NSBE member. Throughout the year I gain mentors who helped me with class selections or even help pull me out of a slum if I did bad on a test. These mentors then became some of my closest friends. I love how NSBE builds friendships and accountability which is definitely needed to make sure that we; increase the number of cultural responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. By joining CEB my freshman year I was able to serve the membership early and enjoyed it completely. I joined REB because I wanted to be able to serve the membership on a higher level.
