SEEK Denver

The SEEK Denver Program is being organized by the National Society of Black Engineers in partnership with CH2M HILL, a global engineering firm headquartered in Colorado and lead SEEK Denver sponsor, along with the City and County of Denver through the vision of Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock, and Denver Public Schools. Together, these entities, along with other businesses and foundations are bringing the SEEK program to Denver in 2013.

Registration Information - Elementary Grade Students

Registrations for the SEEK Denver Program should be completed online through the NSBE membership database, via the registration link  here. Click here for espanol.

Note: For the 2013 SEEK Denver Program year, priority will be given to Maxwell Elementary School’s students, as the host school site, to register first during an early registration period. The SEEK Denver Program will begin taking applications from the Denver area community-at-large beginning February 14, 2013. Registration for SEEK Denver ends on March 18, 2013.

Acceptance: Rolling (open until all spaces are filled). Except as noted above, the SEEK program accepts students on a first come, first serve basis until full.

Acceptance Notifications Sent: Upon confirmation of registration, students will be sent an acceptance or waitlist notification. Students placed on the waitlist will be considered in order of application submission date if spots become available. As spots become available, we will continue accepting students from the waitlist through the first day of the program. In the event a spot becomes available, you will be contacted via phone or email. Due to the high demand of the program, we are unable provide specific information regarding our waitlist (i.e. position number, etc.).

Grade Level and Capacity

To participate in SEEK Denver, students must be enrolled in 3rd-5th grade at the time of application/registration (student’s current grade level). Approximately 100 students are accepted per grade level, totaling 300 students.

Program Information for Elementary Students

No Cost: This program is FREE (No charge for program or materials)
Location: Maxwell Elementary School at 14390 E. Bolling Drive, Denver 80239 (located off Chambers Rd., north of I-70 by approx. 1.5 miles).  


Duration: July 15- August 2, 2013 (Three weeks)
We require that students participate in the entire three (3) week duration of the program. Students who are unable to attend all three weeks will forfeit their spot in the 2013 program, or will not be enrolled.

Days: Monday-Friday
Hours: 8:15-am-3:30pm* (free breakfast will be served from 8:15am - 8:45 am)

*Before/after care is not provided or coordinated by NSBE/SEEK Denver sponsors. Students MUST be dropped off no earlier than 8:15 am and picked up no later than 3:30pm.

Meals: All students participating in the SEEK Denver Program at Maxwell School will be offered a free breakfast and free lunch while participating in the program.  Student with special dietary and allergy restrictions may need to make their own meal arrangements, depending upon the circumstances.

Special Needs: Please be advised that due to the nature of the program, at this time SEEK is not equipped to accommodate students with special needs, individualized education programs or behavioral challenges who require specialized attention and/or instruction.

Transportation to the SEEK Denver Summer Program Site 2013

(Held at Maxwell Elementary – located North of I-70 and West of Chambers)

Transportation to the SEEK Denver summer program site will be provided via DPS buses run daily from Hallet Elementary (located at 2950 Jasmine St , Denver 80207) to Maxwell Elementary.  Students from any school may use the busses from Hallett Elementary to get to the SEEK program site if they sign-up for bus transportation during their registration (on-line) or if they call the SEEK information line at 720-286-6387. Further details about the bus schedule will be provided in June or July.

Parent /Guardian Orientation Required

We require all parents or the student’s guardian to attend a mandatory parent orientation and final registration session held on Saturday, July 13, 2013, from approximately 9:00am 12:00 pm (noon) at Maxwell Elementary School, 14390 E. Boling Drive in Denver. Parents /guardians who do not attend the registration will forfeit their spot to a student on the waiting list. If you are unable to attend the mandatory orientation, you must arrange for a representative to attend on behalf of your child. Parental involvement is an integral part of the sustenance and growth of the SEEK program.

Adult Supervision and Others Observing:

Students will be instructed by NSBE collegiate students from Colorado universities and colleges as well as other colleges across the country.

Additionally, adult volunteers will be present to assist and help with the program, working under the direction of the SEEK Site Director.

NSBE and the Program Sponsor(s) wish to create awareness of the SEEK program and its benefits for students. To this end the Denver SEEK program will invite news media and business sponsors /SEEK funders  to observe, attend, participate in, and report on SEEK activities with the students and Mentors. Parents/guardian will be asked to sign a “Photo Release Form” permitting the Program and media to take and use photos of your child for the purposes of promoting the SEEK program.
