Programs

300x300

Beyond our general membership benefits, NSBE programs and competitions are at the lifeblood of the organization. Programs and competitions are offered to all pre-college, undergraduate student, graduate student and technical professional members in the areas of Academic Excellence, Technical Excellence, Professional Development, Leadership Development, Entrepreneurship, Community Service and Pre-college outreach.

The Institute for Chapter Development (ICD) is a year-round NSBE program designed to strengthen the chapter’s ability to grow and flourish in serving its membership. The program provides a suite of services and tools for your chapter to use throughout the year.

The National Society of Black Engineers is the premier organization serving African Americans in engineering and technology. As a technical community service association, NSBE is the link between the African American community and the world of technology.

A vital component of our mission is helping our members ‘EXCEL ACADEMICALLY’. The NSBE GPA Initiative is an effort aimed at increasing the number of students (NSBE Jr. through graduate students) who submit their transcripts to NSBE World Headquarters (WHQ) each semester. Transcripts are used as a metric for establishing the academic state of our society including both where we are thriving as well as where we could use improvement and resources.

Officially launched in January, 2010 NSBEpreneur™ is a program that is designed to increase the number of Black owned technical companies. The program consists of four core components. Four more information on the program or to support, contact the NSBE Business Diversity Committee at nebbusiness@nsbe.org.

The Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Program is the National Society of Black Engineers' effort to encourage pre-college students in grades K-12 to develop interest and skills in math and science. Through the PCI, NSBE has numerous programs, competitions and events specifically targeted at providing hands-on technical experience with mathematics, science, engineering and methods. From team based competitions such as Try-Math-A-Lon to individual engagement through the Summer Engineering Experience for Kids camp to college exam prep seminars for graduating seniors, NSBE is a valuable resource to all NSBE Jr. members and pre-college students interested in becoming the next generation engineer!

The goal of the NSBE Retention Program is to improve the graduation rates of Blacks in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This will be the umbrella for three different programmatic pieces designed for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.

The SEEK Program is designed to be a fun and engaging educational experience, led by NSBE engineering students and technical professionals dedicated to pursuing professional excellence and giving back to the community. The SEEK Program utilizes a hands-on design curriculum supplied by various Educational Curriculum companies and Cooperate Sponsors. Campers will work in teams, using their knowledge to solve problems and create products while discovering the underlying math and science principles involved in these processes. Each week, the campers will take on a new project, culminating with a presentation, design competition and physical competitions that all parents are encouraged to attend.

Technical OutReach Community Help (TORCH) is NSBE’s community service initiative. We aim to use out technical backgrounds to positively impact the community and achieve the following objectives.

In an increasingly competitive workplace, NSBE helps to position its technical professional members for success through a variety of technical certification opportunities, professional development conferences, and special interest groups focused in areas such as space exploration, information technology, and energy. Various programs are also provided by technical professional members in service to pre-college and collegiate NSBE members, such as cyber-mentoring and the Save Our Kids Initiative.

Competitions

300x300

NSBE Competitions take place at our Fall Regional Conferences and Annual Convention for NSBE Jr. and Collegiate members. These competitions showcase members’ technical skills in completing research and design of innovative projects.
