Greeting Region V Alumni:

What an awesome task I have as representing you during the 2008-2009 year as your Chair Elect.  It my goal to keep the membership aware as much as possible of the wonderful opportunities and benefits from being a part of the worlds largest student ran organization.  The National Society of Black Engineers Alumni Extension is the source of the most renowned Black technical professionals in the world. This year we will strive on the 2008-2009 National Strategic Plan, we will follow our national leaders and become P.O.W.E.R.ful individuals.  As a region we will:

  • Exhibit Professional Excellence
  • Contribute to Community Outreach
  • Establish a Substantial Worldwide Impact
  • Network and Provide Engineering Excellence
  • Recruitment and Retention

NSBE has since grown from six to 30,000 members and the annual meeting has blossomed into the Annual National Convention, hosting over 10,000 attendees. Headquartered in Alexandria, Va., NSBE offers academic excellence programs, scholarships, leadership training, professional development and access to career opportunities for thousands of members annually. With over 2000 elected leadership positions, 12 regional conferences and an annual convention, NSBE provides opportunities for success that remain unmatched by any other organization.
The Region V Alumni Membership goal is 1500. Your help and cooperation is greatly appreciated as we make this milestone.  I suggest that you also read the Constitution and By-laws of our organization to give you an idea of how NSBE is ran.

Please feel free to contact me with questions at r5aechairelect@board.nsbe.org.

Sherrelle R. Diggs, P.E.
2008-2009 Region V AE Chair Elect

Who is eligible for membership?
Professional membership is open to all professionals who hold a degree in engineering, computer science, math and the applied sciences. All others are invited to become affiliate members.

If you choose not to be affiliated with a chapter in your local area, you will be considered a "Member At-Large," classified by your geographical region. Members "At-Large" receive the same national benefits as those who belong to a chapter.  However, we strongly encourage our membership to join an alumni chapter within your local area.

Please visit the Region V Alumni Extension Site for more information and a list of chapters in your area.

What is the Alumni Extension Membership year?
Alumni membership is annual. The membership year begins on August 1 and expires on July 31st of the following year regardless of purchase date. Members must renew their membership beginning August 1 of each year.

Access Alumni Membership Online for additional information

What is the annual membership fee?
Annual Alumni membership dues are $50, and may be paid directly to NSBE National Headquarters or to your chapter. Most chapters charge chapter dues (paid directly to the chapter), and these fees are in addition to the national dues.

Upon graduation, student members are strongly encouraged to continue their participation with NSBE and join the Alumni Extension of Technical Professionals. The membership dues are free to students who join within one year of graduation (a $50 value)!

  • Subscription to NSBE Magazine sent directly to your address.
  • Discount registration to all NSBE events including the Annual National Convention.
  • Unlimited access to NSBE's job posting board.
  • Access to post your resume(s) in the NSBE database, searched by over 500 corporations and universities.

What is chapter renewal?
A chapter’s charting status is granted annually to all NSBE Jr, Collegiate and Alumni Extension Chapters. In order to be officially recognized as a National Society of Black Engineers, execute programs and participate in member only scholarships and awards programs, chapters must be chartered. If a NSBE chapter does not exist in your city, on your campus, or in your school, you can petition to charter a chapter.

Access NSBE On-line for more information

What if a chapter DOES NOT exist in my area?
If your city or state doesn't have a chapter, we invite you to start one! It is done online in four simple steps. Simply click here to start the process today. Your other option is to join as a "Member-At-Large."

What is the Fulfilling the Legacy Scholarship, and how can members contribute?
The Fulfilling the Legacy Scholarship epitomizes NSBE's mission statement, and is awarded to deserving undergraduate students. The number of scholarships available is determined by the amount of money donated to the fund by the membership and private donations each year. Your minimum donation of $1.00 can be made by designating your contribution on the online membership form.

How do I report a change of address?
All information changes can be made via NSBE Online (NOL). Use the email address provided in your email confirmation and your password to retrieve data. Make your changes and be sure to save them.
