TORCH - Technical OutReach Community Help

torchlogo.gif

With NSBE's unique positioning as a technical organization, this program was created to use our 18,000 members to impact the divide on a national level. Having first hand knowledge of communities with limited access to digital technology, we can serve as role models who can provide much needed information and training in a non-intimidating format to pre-college youth and adults in our community. The focus of our T.O.R.C.H. effort will be connecting our collegiate members to community technology centers through community service. We will also be in development of an enhanced technical and educational curriculum to support our NSBE TORCH Centers and partner centers.

TORCH Community Service Initiative

The T.O.R.C.H. Community Service Initiative has been launched to encourage community service among our membership and communities that are underserved with regards to digital technology. The goal of the initiative is to engage our membership in community service activity that supports closing the digital divide by accumulating over 50,000 volunteer hours in community technology centers throughout the United States. NSBE members will perform volunteer community service in local partner computer technology centers by providing technical assistance to pre-college youth and adults. Our community partners include CTCNet, Intel Computer Clubhouses and NSBE T.O.R.C.H. Centers. Members and chapters completing the most community service hours in the program may be eligible for incentive awards for their dedicated service.
