CHAPTER FUNDRAISING IDEAS
Does
your chapter have really good fundraisers?
If so and you think they would be valuable to
NSBE chapters throughout Region
IV, please send them to the REB
ASAP.
NOTE: NSBE Region IV is *NOT
RESPONSIBLE* for
any chapter-level fundraising. All listed ideas
are ways that may help YOUR CHAPTER raise funds.
Raffles
They are several options for a raffle. You can either
do a 50/50; where you sell raffle tickets and the
winner receives have of
the profits. You can also have a company donate a gift
such as a palm pilot, TV, gift certificate, or a
computer. The best
companies to ask are large department store chains
and local retailers.
T-Shirts
Have a member design a tee-shirt. Have the tee-shirts
mass produced to sell to other NSBE chapters at conferences
or around campus.
When you mass-produce the shirts, the cost per shirt
will be lower. You may even want a company to sponsor
the tee shirts.
Suggest that if they pay for half of the tee shirt,
their logo will be placed on the sleeve or somewhere
else on the shirt.
Then sell the shirts for $15-20.

Parties:
bowling, skating theme
Select a venue to have the party. For smaller chapters,
it can be co-sponsored with another NSBE chapter or
organization on
campus. Set a price to be able to make a profit. Discounts
can be given to NSBE members with paraphernalia. Some
examples of
theme parties are a luau, a 70's party, old school, and
costume.
Shows
Put on an auction, fashion, talent or step show at
your school. For smaller chapters you may want to co-sponsor
the event with
another student group on campus or another NSBE chapter.

(Spades)
Card Game Tournament
Charge students $2-3 to participate in tournament.
Set up a game bracket until there is a championship
round. Have three
areas setup with a judge for each area to ensure fairness.
The prize can be half of the collected registration
fee or a gift
donated by a corporate sponsor (i.e. palm pilot, cell
phone plus one year service).
3 on 3
Basketball Tournament
Similar to the card tournament, charge students a registration
fee per team. A reasonably fee range is $10-20 per
team. Then
charge people $1-3 to watch the tournament. The prize
can be a championship t-shirts, bragging rights and/or
money.

Car Wash
A car wash works better in the warmer weather. This
can be coordinated with a local fire department, business
or campus. For this event
to be successful, it needs to take place in a location
where there is a considerable amount of traffic flow.
Super
Bowl Party/Sports Party
If you attend a school where there is an emphasis on
sports, throw a party in a local restaurant, campus
or any other location
with access to big screen TVs. If you have the party
in a local restaurant arrange a certain percentage
of the profits for orders
from anyone in your group. In you have it on campus
let people come to the party free, but then charge
for food and sodas during
the game.

Alumni
Activity
Organize a fundraiser that will involve alumni from
NSBE or your school. This will help improve relations
between undergraduate
and alumni chapters. Some suggested events are a jazz
cabaret with poetry, performances and local entertainment.
Depending
on the location of the event the suggested cost could
be $5-10 for students and $10-20 for alumni.
Candy
Grams
During the holidays, sell candy grams on campus. Charge
$1-2 for a bag of assorted candy. When people purchase
the candy,
they can put a personalized message on the bag to be
sent to someone else on campus. For people who want
to send one to off
campus students, give a suggested pick up spot convenient
to people on campus. You can even give the candy grams
names to
suit the holidays. For example, BOO grams for Halloween
and Turkey Grams for Thanksgiving.

Flowers
Sell flowers for Valentine's Day. Speak with local florists
about getting flowers in bulk at a discounted price.
Mention that a business card will be attached to each
flower. Similar
to the candy grams, have people attach a personal message
to
send to someone else on campus.
Chapter
Resume Books/CDs
Collect the resumes of members in your chapter and
sell them to companies for a nominal fee.
Campus
Endowments
On many college campuses, there is "hidden" money for student
organizations; i.e. they don't advertise the possible
funding, but it is available. Be sure to ask around campus
if there
is
money for organizations through endowments the campus
receives. For example, Pepsi and Nike give a lot of money
to college
campuses
for student organizations.
Office
of the Dean
Many Deans will set aside money for student organizations,
especially groups that can increase diversity. Submit
a well-written proposal
to the Dean at the beginning of the school year. It's
best to ask him/her to fund something specific like conferences.
