The Golden Torch Awards (GTA) recognizes excellence among technical professionals, corporate, government and academic leaders, and university and pre-college students. These awards illustrate the possibilities that can be cultivated through support and responsibility. The proceeds of GTA are used to create college scholarships for gifted high school students. #NSBE2013 Photo Recap #NSBE2013 Photo Recap

NSBE's 39th Annual Convention in Indianapolis recorded the second-highest attendance, with more than 8,200 registrants checking in. The largest attended convention remains Orlando, with more than 9,600 attendees. Roland S. Martin, former CNN contributor and TVOne host drew standing room only crows to the Opening Session on Wednesday, which was sponsored by the United Technologies Corporation. At the Golden Torch Awards ceremony on Saturday, the United States Military Academy was honored for an historic accomplishment in diversity. During the Convention, eight African-American professors of West Point’s Department of Mathematical Sciences received NSBE’s Dr. Janice A. Lumpkin Educator of the Year honor on behalf of their department. No other college or university math department in the country has as many African-American professors.

NSBE Jr. Chapter Takes 1st Place NSBE Jr. Chapter Takes 1st Place

The Metro Warriors STEM NSBE Jr. Chapter won 1st place in the middle school division at the Ten80 Student Racing Challenge: NASCAR STEM Initiative™ held at the Max Dragway in Concord, NC on May 18. Representing Region II, the Metro Warriors also placed 1st for team presentation. The Ten80 Student Racing Challenge: NASCAR STEM Initiative is a league in which middle and high school students* practice the art of being professionals. Young men and women, supported by a community of mentors and educators, collaborate and compete in ways that mirror business & marketing executives, engineers, technicians, green transportation designers and professional motor-sports  teams. NSBE World Headquarters Staff Teams 

Although Headquarters has a management structure, we function in teams. Listed below are the home teams for each staff member. All teams have a National Executive Board member for their functional areas.

Accounting and Finance Team - Responsibilities include budgeting, accounts payables and receivables, credit card management, check reimbursement and disbursements, collections, refunds, receipt management, taxes, tax-exempt status, audit, registration and membership fees, mortgage, and financial and liability contracts. Finance and Development responsibilities include identifying potential opportunities for grant funding through corporate, foundation and government entities; obtaining in-kind support, and evaluating projects for competitive advantage and fundraising feasibility.

Administrative Team - Responsibilities include general management of the World Headquarters, including human resources, staff training and development, operational policies and procedures, office equipment, building maintenance, and general day-to-day activities of the staff.

Convention & Meeting Planning Team - Responsibilities include all activities related to all meeting services and convention planning for NSBE, such as contractual and logistical planning, programming and execution.

Corporate Relations Team - Responsibilities include fostering relationships with Board of Corporate Affiliates (BCA) companies; building corporate relationships with other companies and securing in-kind support and sponsorship for NSBE.

Executive Team - Responsibilities include overall management of NSBE World Headquarters.

Information Technology Team - Responsibilities includes desktop management; hardware and software infrastructure development, maintenance and management; server management, including e-mail; listserve management; web services, planning and development of NSBE Online, and short- and long-term strategy for the technology needs of the organization.

Membership Team - Responsibilities include developing and implementing strategies as they relate to database management, membership benefits, recruitment, retention, membership marketing, and chapter renewal/creation. This team is also responsible for national convention registration.

Publications, New Media, and Communications Team - Responsibilities include publishing (editorial, design and advertising) NSBE, and The Bridge magazines. This team is also responsible for content management of the NSBE Web site and national public relations efforts.
