SAT to drop essay requirement and return to top score of 1600 in redesign of admission test SAT to drop essay requirement and return to top score of 1600 in redesign of admission test

The SAT college admission test will no longer require a timed essay, will dwell less on fancy vocabulary and will return to the familiar 1600-point scoring scale in a major overhaul intended to open doors to higher education for students who are now shut out.

The second redesign of the SAT this century, announced Wednesday, will take effect in early 2016, as today’s ninth graders are sitting for their college admission tests.

The National Society of Black Engineers Potomac River Professionals held the latest iteration of its “Lunch and Learn” series March 27 at the University of Mary Washington Dahlgren Campus, where guest speaker Tonya McNair, deputy program manager for the Above Water Sensors Directorate within the Program Executive Office Integrated Warfare Systems, offered insight on leadership and finding one’s voice.

NSBE World Headquarters Staff Teams 

Although Headquarters has a management structure, we function in teams. Listed below are the home teams for each staff member. All teams have a National Executive Board member for their functional areas.

Accounting and Finance Team - Responsibilities include budgeting, accounts payables and receivables, credit card management, check reimbursement and disbursements, collections, refunds, receipt management, taxes, tax-exempt status, audit, registration and membership fees, mortgage, and financial and liability contracts. Finance and Development responsibilities include identifying potential opportunities for grant funding through corporate, foundation and government entities; obtaining in-kind support, and evaluating projects for competitive advantage and fundraising feasibility.

Administrative Team - Responsibilities include general management of the World Headquarters, including human resources, staff training and development, operational policies and procedures, office equipment, building maintenance, and general day-to-day activities of the staff.

Convention & Meeting Planning Team - Responsibilities include all activities related to all meeting services and convention planning for NSBE, such as contractual and logistical planning, programming and execution.

Corporate Relations Team - Responsibilities include fostering relationships with Board of Corporate Affiliates (BCA) companies; building corporate relationships with other companies and securing in-kind support and sponsorship for NSBE.

Executive Team - Responsibilities include overall management of NSBE World Headquarters.

Information Technology Team - Responsibilities includes desktop management; hardware and software infrastructure development, maintenance and management; server management, including e-mail; listserve management; web services, planning and development of NSBE Online, and short- and long-term strategy for the technology needs of the organization.

Membership Team - Responsibilities include developing and implementing strategies as they relate to database management, membership benefits, recruitment, retention, membership marketing, and chapter renewal/creation. This team is also responsible for national convention registration.

Programs Team - Responsibilities include planning and implementing programs as defined by the National Executive Board, including Academic Excellence, PCI, Technical Excellence, T.O.R.C.H., Chapter Development and Leadership; Scholarships and Competitions; Awards and Recognition; Torchbearers; Strategic Partnerships.

Publications, New Media, and Communications Team - Responsibilities include publishing (editorial, design and advertising) NSBE, and The Bridge magazines. This team is also responsible for content management of the NSBE Web site and national public relations efforts.

Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK) Team - Responsibilities include planning and implementing the NSBE SEEK Academy in various cities across the country.
