The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is one of the largest student-governed organizations based in the United States. NSBE, founded in 1975, supports and promotes the aspirations of collegiate and pre-collegiate students and technical professionals in engineering and technology.
With more than 600 chapters and more than 24,000 active members in the U.S. and abroad, NSBE’s mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community."
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is one of the largest student governed organizations in the world. We have birthed hundreds of businesses, trained thousands of corporate leaders, graduated tens of thousands of engineers, and engaged hundreds of thousands of K-12 students in STEM education over our 47-year history, both nationally and abroad. In short, NSBE members, chapters, and supporters are dedicated to increasing the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.
Our programs are at the heart of NSBE’s commitment to building and maintaining a vibrant STEM pipeline.
Leadership, Technical Excellence, Academic Excellence and Mentoring are all a part of how we positively impact the community. Supporting NSBE means that you are working to build a strong legacy of leaders, innovators and skilled global citizens that will positively impact the world for decades to come!
Year after year, NSBE’s impact is felt on every level. The thousands of 4th-6th graders attending our national Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK) camps, the 15K collegiate students receiving academic/technical excellence skills and the hundreds of businesses that our Professionals lead every day can attest to the benefits of the organization. We are thought leaders in developing the STEM pipeline, collegiate Engineering Retention and corporate Diversity and Inclusion.
We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color, and all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. In this world, Blacks exceed parity in entering engineering fields, earning degrees, and succeeding professionally.
The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers is "to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community."
The National Society of Black Engineers strives to accomplish the following objectives for our organization:
