Shabir Bhegani
Region III Chair

Hailing from Nashville, TN, Shabir Ahmed Kimera Bhegani, 26, is a graduate student pursuing a Master’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Environmental Engineering at Tennessee Technological University (TTU) where he also obtained his Bachelors of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2015. He has taken an academic interest in solving real world dilemmas with practical solutions. Currently, he is working on a project that solves a two-fold problem for a local community in Uganda to have water for potable and agricultural use.

Bhegani has been a member of NSBE for over a decade. He began as a NSBE Jr. Member in 2006 as part of the Martin L. King, Jr. Academic Magnet High School chapter. There he served as a Finance Committee member, helping his budding chapter attend Region 3’s 2008 Fall Regional Conference in Jacksonville, FL. He continued his dedication to NSBE leadership as a freshman at TTU in 2009. There he expanded his leadership skills by serving as chapter Senator, Programs Chair, two-term President, President Emeritus, and Alumni Relations Chair.

Searching for more ways to give back and expose others to the amazing organization that he grew to love, he then took the opportunity to serve as the 2014-2015 Region III International Committee Chair, 2015-2016 National Leadership Institute Fellow, and the 2016-2017 Environmental Special Interest Group Membership Coordinator.

Currently serving as the 2017-2018 Region III Chair, Bhegani aims to motivate the region to “Bring Power back to the Powerhouse” by strengthening the leadership pipeline, cultivating the 3-Ready member, and instilling a strong NSBE family feel throughout all demographics of the region!

He lives by a personal mission of “being a leader determined for global impact” by working on projects that “provide reliable access to clean water for all people.”
