Teakia is from Jersey City, New Jersey and currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina. She earned her bachelors of science in civil engineering from Drexel University and a masters of business administration in project management from Florida Institute of Technology. With over 15 years of experience, she has worked in various engineering fields including residential, commercial and wastewater/water treatment. Teakia currently works at 35° North, a pharmaceutical engineering consultant company as a Senior Cost Engineer where she develops budget analyses for multi-million dollar construction projects within the life science and pharmaceutical industry. She utilizes product specifications, conceptual to complete engineering drawings and design narratives to determine value engineering, offer lessons learned and create concise budgets within 5% of actual subcontractor costs. She also identifies the order of magnitude of potential project risk, solicits bids and reviews and identifies constructability issues.
A NSBE lifetime member, Teakia has held various positions within the Society as a college student and a professional - local and regional, including chapter treasurer, T.O.R.C.H. chair, membership chair, programs chair, telecommunications chair, interim secretary, vice president and president. She is currently a member of the Research Triangle Professionals Chapter.
As the PEB publicist, Teakia is responsible for creating promotional documents, managing NSBE Professionals social media platforms, producing a monthly NSBE Professionals eNews, supporting virtual programs and more.
Teakia often brainstorms about various methods to engage our youth in the math and sciences. She serves as Co-Servant Leader in her church and participates in various public service events including TeachOne Tech, Crayons2Calculators, Habitat for Humanity, Black Girls Code and community youth initiative programs for middle and high school girls. Teakia has proven to be tenacious when it comes to mentoring, being a role model and encouraging the lives of the youth in her community.
