About the Integrated Pipeline Program (IPP)

The Integrated Pipeline Program (IPP) is a customized program that allows you to get a head start to recruiting, hiring, and retaining the diverse engineering workforce every employer needs and that the 21st-century economy demands. For Partners, a NSBE IPP is a way to identify and connect with the brightest, most diverse engineer scholars of the future, as well as a way to position firms and agencies as good, forward-looking citizens in front of employees, customers, and corporate and government decision-makers.

For Students, participating in a NSBE IPP provides young aspiring engineers with career readiness skills, access to corporate mentors, financial resources for education, and a cohort experience

For College Engineering Schools and Departments of Engineering, a NSBE IPP can be an opportunity for institutional capacity-building by continuing relationships with the firms and agencies that are providing their scholars with scholarships and internships, as well as an opportunity to work with NSBE to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.

Just as no two organizations are identical, each Integrated Pipeline Program is different — custom-designed in consultations with NSBE’s staff to meet the client’s precise needs and budget. Program objectives and components are selected from a portfolio of proven strategies and are created to suit the partner’s needs, match the partner’s organizational norms and achieve desired results.

  • Cummins-NSBE Integrated Pipeline Program. The Cummins-NSBE IPP, funded by a $1.48 million, five-year grant from Cummins, includes scholarship grants and academic and professional development support for NSBE collegiate members from Howard University, Purdue University, and most recently, North Carolina A&T State University. In addition to student support, these institutions receive capacity-building grants to support the development of blended programs that engage institutional and student leaders- including NSBE chapter leaders - to improve student retention and success. The program’s overarching goal is to increase the pool of diverse engineering talent entering the U.S. industrial workforce.
  • NSBE/Honeywell Integrated Pipeline Program (honeywell.nsbe.org). This comprehensive program aims to reduce the talent and representation gap among African American technical employment candidates by cultivating the interest and enhancing the preparation of a cohort of rising sophomore engineering students in six designated geographic regions. The financial resources provided by the NSBE/Honeywell Integrated Pipeline Program (NHIPP) along with mentorship and meaningful work experiences will boost the retention and graduation rates of this cohort, and ultimately, provide a candidate pool of highly qualified engineers.
