"Expanding NSBE's Reach"

Chair's Welcome Vision.

The Most Live and Supreme Region in the Society

HOWWWWW DEEEEEPPPP?????

What's up beautiful people. My name is Yobesh Okero, and I am blessed and highly honored to serve as your 2022 - 2023 Region V Chairperson. I want to first take this opportunity to thank all of you for believing in me and placing me in this position. I would not be the man I am today without the support of NSBE and the people I've met being a part of this organization. It is very difficult to put into words exactly how it feels to be one of, if not, the only black student in a lecture hall of 300 people. The fear, uncertainty, and feeling of not belonging is incredibly terrifying. NSBE came along and provided me with the comfort I needed. NSBE provided a space of fellow engineers who looked like me, had similar experiences to mine, and had similar goals to mine. NSBE provided me a family where I feel like I belong, where I no longer felt like a minority. Through this exposure I have grown a very strong passion to impact others through NSBE how NSBE has impacted me. I genuinely believe in every single aspect of the NSBE mission, and this year I hope to fulfill it to my greatest ability.

NSBE has had a profound impact on my life, and accordingly, the vision I set for the year is to "Expand NSBE's Reach." This year I want to expose as many people to everything that NSBE has to offer, and I will work as hard as I can to ensure that our impact is felt all across the region. Based on the Regional Vision, the following Regional Directives were set for the year:

1. Community Reach - Entice a stronger community across all entities in the region

NSBE is a very vast community that stretches across many borders, and I want to work to grow and strengthen that community. This includes but is not limited to establishing stronger relationships across NSBE Jr, Collegiate, and Professional chapters across the region, encouraging more collaboration across chapters, and chartering and supporting both inactive and active chapters across the region.

 2. Cultural Reach -  Capture and emphasize NSBE’s impact across all cultures that define NSBE

As vast as our community is, it encompasses a lot of different sub communities and cultures. My goal mirrors the last chair Iman’s vision being to ensure that every single person feels like they are a part of this family of ours. In addition to that I want to ensure that our impact outside NSBE is felt across all communities across the region. Whether that’s through community service or any other way, I want for NSBE’s impact to be felt by more than just NSBE members.

3. Professional Reach - Cultivate a professional atmosphere to produce more well-rounded engineers

Like the mission says, one of our pillars is creating engineers that succeed professionally. I really aim on homing in this aspect of the mission and really work on helping NSBE members transition into the professional world with ease. This includes but is not limited to Launching a successful mentorship program, deepening the exposure to entrepreneurship at our conference, and pioneering a professional development event series

4.  Academic Reach - Cultivate and Assist in Academic Excellence Across the Region

Lastly, as you all know, academic success is the foundation of what NSBE stands for. In order to graduate 10 thousand black engineers annually by 2025 academic excellence is something that I want to focus on heavily. I want to push as well as aid NSBE members to excel academically.

We are the VANGUARD, defined as a group of people leading the way in new developments or ideas. We are the LIVE FIVE, the most Live and Supreme region in the society. We are REGION V. You all, have my word that your regional executive board and I will work tirelessly to Expand NSBE’s Reach and increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community

FIVEEE DEEEEEP!!!!!

With the DEEPEST regards ,

Yobesh Okero
