The members of Region VI are doing some amazing things! Check out one member's story below.
Bryan C. Huffman, a 5th year Mechanical Engineering major at the University of California, Merced as well as the Chapter Treasurer of the UC Merced Chapter of NSBE. Entering my final year as an undergrad I knew I had to be focused and determined to accomplish what needed to be done. This was not only just to graduate, but to stand out. During the semester I took on many different responsibilities such as an internship, a job, being Treasurer, and of course school. They are all things I have a passion for, but I knew all of it would strengthen my résumé, provided I could keep up. I was asked several times if I could handle everything and still perform in school and instead of wondering if I could do it, I simply did it. When I think back, doing it wasn’t the difficult part; it was finding the motivation, the drive, and realizing that your limits are defined by you and you only. Once I realized that, I combined effective time management, determination, self-motivation, and a little sleep deprivation to receive an A in each class I had for the semester. If I could give one piece of advice, I would say push yourself; push yourself because you might just be surprised at what you can really do.
My name is Olaoluwa 'Dami' Alebiosu. I am a Petroleum Engineering senior at New Mexico Tech of which I have maintained a G.P.A of 4.0. I play soccer and bball during my free time. My advice to students like myself with regards to maintaining a high G.P.A is to learn the art of time management.
Hello! My name is Cheyanne Harris and I am a freshman Civil Engineering major at University of the Pacific. In addition to being Secretary of University of the Pacific’s NSBE chapter, I am also involved in Concert Band, Society of Women Engineers, and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. My strategies for maintaining a 4.0 are: attending office hours, starting assignments as soon as possible, and reading textbooks to understand the content. To the other members of Region VI , I would like to congratulate you for deciding to major in engineering. Although it is tough, you can persevere and follow your dreams! Being in NSBE and other campus organizations can provide you with a support network when you need a little extra encouragement. Keep up the good work! You can do it!
