NSBE's Vision

We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color and all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. In this world, Blacks exceed parity in entering engineering fields, earning degrees and succeeding professionally.

NSBE's Mission and Objectives

The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers is “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.” The National Society of Black Engineers strives to accomplish the following objectives for our organization:

  • Stimulate and develop student interest in the various engineering disciplines
  • Increase the number of underrepresented minority students completing engineering programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Encourage members to seek advanced degrees in engineering or related fields and to obtain professional engineering certifications
  • Promote public awareness of engineering and the opportunities for Blacks and other minorities in that profession
  • Function as a representative body on issues and developments that affect the careers of Black Engineers

Welcome From The Convention Planning Committee Chair

Dear Prospective Partner,

As a high school senior, I attended my very first NSBE Annual Convention, #NSBE45, in Detroit, Michigan. That experience solidified my desire to become an engineer. So today, as a student at the University of Missouri–Columbia studying Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics, I welcome you to partner with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) for our 49th Annual Convention, themed #NSBE49: I am STEM, from March 22–26, next year in Kansas City, Missouri.

At this year’s Convention, we will focus on our members by supporting and strengthening the relationships among all demographics of NSBE. With your support, our members will experience programming and events designed to help them develop techniques to:

  • Succeed Professionally
  • Tech the Future
  • Engage the Next Generation
  • Manage Wellness

Since 1975, the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) has led the charge “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.” In this proposal, you will learn about our organization, plans for the Convention, and the impact we plan to make on our members and partners in Kansas City. In short, your support is vital and a game-changer for many of our members.

Join us in Kansas City, Missouri, March 22–26, 2023, for NSBE’s 49th Annual Convention. On behalf of NSBE, I thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to working with you for many years to come!

Sincerest regards,

Chanel Wheeler

Warning

NSBE has taken health and safety measures — for attendees, exhibitors and staff attending NSBE’s 49th Annual Convention (#NSBE49). You must follow all posted instructions while attending #NSBE49. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. I acknowledge that participation in #NSBE49 brings some risk, and I do hereby assume responsibility for my own well-being. I will follow all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance, and all posted instructions, while attending NSBE events and activities. I understand, agree and hereby consent that my failure or disregard to follow all protocols in effect and required by NSBE, CDC, the venue provider and state and local law during my attendance at #NSBE49 is hereby sufficient grounds to be excluded from attending the event by NSBE or an event authority, and I hereby consent in advance to leave and exit the event, without protest or refund, upon request by NSBE or an event authority due to my refusal to follow said protocols.

Assumption of Risk

I have read and understood the above warning concerning COVID-19. I hereby choose to accept the risk of contracting COVID-19 for myself in order to attend the #NSBE49 conference and enter the conference premises.

Waiver, Release and Indemnification

As a condition of my attendance and/or participation in this meeting or event, I expressly waive any rights against and release and hold harmless NSBE and any of its officers, directors, employees, members, volunteers, representatives, contractors, agents, legal successors, and assigns (collectively “NSBE Releasees”) from and against any and all claims, suits, demands, losses, damages, expenses, or liability of whatever kind or nature (collectively “liability”), under any theory of law or equity, that may arise during or as a result of my presence at the #NSBE49 conference, including but not limited to any such liability related to or arising out of illness, injury, or death associated with infection of COVID-19 or complications, symptoms, or other effects resulting from contracting COVID-19. I will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless NSBE Releasees against any and all losses, damages, liabilities, deficiencies, claims, actions, judgments, settlements, interest, awards, penalties, fines, costs, or expenses of whatever kind, including attorneys’ fees, fees and the costs of enforcing any right to indemnification under this agreement, and the cost of pursuing any insurance providers, arising out of or resulting from any claim of a third party related to the Activities.

BY ATTENDING THE #NSBE49 CONFERENCE, I ATTEST THAT I HAVE CAREFULLY READ AND FULLY UNDERSTAND ALL PROVISIONS OF THIS RELEASE AND FREELY AND KNOWINGLY ASSUME THE RISK AND WAIVE MY RIGHTS CONCERNING LIABILITY AS DESCRIBED ABOVE.
