Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by two or more adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League* teams (up to 10 members, grades 4-8**) research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field. NSBE's FIRST LEGO League Championship takes place at the Annual Convention. Students must be a participant of an active NSBE Jr. chapter.

Participants get to: 

  • Research challenges facing today’s scientists 
  • Design, build, test and program robots using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® technology 
  • Apply real-world math and science concepts 
  • Learn critical thinking, team-building, and presentation skills 
  • Participate in tournaments and celebrations 
  • Understand and practice Gracious Professionalism®

Eligibility and Requirements:

  • All participants must be active NSBE Jr. members of an officially recognized NSBE Jr. chapter.
  • All Students must be in grades 4-8.
  • Attending the 45th Annual Convention in Detroit, MI.
  • Teams: Minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 10 students.
  • Chapter advisor and team coach must participate in the "FIRST Youth Protection Program". This designation is valid for three years from the time you are cleared through FIRST.
